Simplified Residence Permit in Latvia for Retirees from Certain Countries
Please note that Latvia has a simplified residence permit program for retirees from certain countries.
The main conditions are reaching the Latvian retirement age and having a visa-free entry agreement between Latvia and the country of which you are a citizen.
Such countries include America, Australia, Israel, Canada, and others.
A simplified residence permit for retirees can be obtained if the monthly pension is at least 1,100 euros per month.
You do not need to purchase property, establish a company, or maintain a large sum of money in a Latvian bank account.
If you have reached the Latvian retirement age (as of March 1, 2024 - 64 years and 9 months), are a citizen of the aforementioned countries, and your pension is at least 1,100 euros per month, you can obtain a temporary residence permit in Latvia for 2 years through a simplified procedure.
Main documents required to obtain a residence permit:
- Special application form.
- Photograph.
- Certificate from a government institution confirming monthly pension payments.
- Document confirming place of residence in Latvia (property owner's consent or rental agreement).
- Marriage certificate.
- Health insurance.
- Medical certificate confirming absence of tuberculosis.
These documents are submitted to the Department of Citizenship and Migration, a processing fee is paid, a decision is made, and the residence permit is issued.
Fee per person for reviewing residence permit documents:
- Within 30 calendar days: 100 euros.
- Within 10 business days: 200 euros.
- Within 5 business days: 400 euros.
A residence permit can also be obtained by your spouse, regardless of their age.
