As a result, the residence permit card expires, there is still no decision, and the question arises - how to travel or go to other countries, how to properly obtain a visa?
Many believe that you can obtain a visa from another country - a Finnish or Spanish visa. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The Schengen countries have a unified information system. Until there is a residence permit decision, you cannot obtain a visa from another country.
The only correct option is to obtain a Latvian Category "D" visa.
Documents must be submitted at the embassy or consulate. This must be done in person. Visa services (Pony Express) do not provide assistance with this.
To obtain a visa, you need to submit a special application form, a photograph, the residence permit decision, insurance, a bank statement printout, a copy of your passport, and pay the visa fee. Within 2-4 days the visa will be ready.
After receiving the visa, it is desirable that the first entry be through Latvia.
The visa will be multiple-entry, but its validity period will be limited to the day when the Department plans to make a decision. That is, if the residence permit review is postponed until February 25, the visa will also be valid until February 25.
When a positive decision is made, you can obtain a second visa to enter and collect your residence permit card.
