How many people obtained a residence permit in Latvia since 2010, what amounts were involved, what real estate was purchased

  • From 2010 (when the programme for obtaining a temporary residence permit through the purchase of real estate came into effect) until early 2014, 3,155 properties were purchased for amounts of 125,001 euros or more.
  • 1,151 properties were purchased for amounts from 125,001 to 150,000 euros.
  • 1,085 properties were purchased for amounts from 150,001 to 200,000 euros.
  • 364 properties were purchased for amounts from 200,001 to 250,000 euros.
  • 461 properties were purchased for amounts from 250,001 to 500,000 euros.
  • 94 properties were purchased for amounts exceeding 500,000 euros.
  • The most expensive property was purchased for more than 3,000,000 euros.
  • By location, the majority of properties were purchased in Riga, with Jurmala in second place. Properties were also purchased in Ozolnieki village, Babite Municipality, Marupe Municipality, and Cesis city.
  • In 2013, the largest number of residence permit applications was submitted - 1,557 applications. Of these, 1,499 applicants received a residence permit, applications from 40 applicants were still under review by the end of 2013, and 18 applicants were rejected.
  • Data from the Department of Citizenship and Migration on the "profile" of an investor who received a residence permit are also interesting. On average, an investor is 40 years old and has higher education. To support one family member, an investor spends an average of 700 - 1,400 euros per month.
