Residence permit in Latvia - statistics for 2022 and 2023

We present to your attention a review of how many investors received their initial residence permit in 2022 and 2023.

In 2022, 58 investors received a residence permit based on real estate purchases. The majority (37 people) are Russian citizens.

They obtained their residence permits at the beginning of the year, in January and February, when this was possible. In second place (4 people) are citizens of the USA.

In third place (3 people) are citizens of Israel.

For 2023, data is available only for 6 months. In the first half of the year, 5 residence permits were issued. These are citizens of the USA, Azerbaijan, Israel, China, and the United Kingdom (since this country's departure from the EU, a legal basis for residence in Latvia as an EU member state is required).

It can be assumed that in the second half of the year there will be few requests, and the number of investors this year will be lower than in the previous year.

Among other grounds, the most residence permits were issued based on employment (1,738 people in the first half of 2023), as well as highly qualified specialists (the so-called "EU Blue Card"), 167 people.

From this, we can conclude that it is still possible to obtain a residence permit based on real estate purchases (except for citizens of Russia and Belarus).

But if for some reason this option doesn't suit you, you can consider employment as an alternative.
