- Annual renewal procedure - follows standard procedure without changes. Decisions are made promptly, and no additional documents are requested.
- When reapplying for a residence permit (for the next five years), the department delays the timeline by 2-3 months and requests additional information. For example - a list of contacts in Latvia and the country of residence, bank statements for the past year, a detailed explanation with motivation for obtaining a residence permit, and so on.
- For initial residence permit issuance, everything depends on your passport. Citizens of Russia and Belarus are denied residence permits until June of next year. This applies even to those who managed to submit documents before the amendments took effect. This also applies to those who have a positive decision but whose residence permit cards have not been cancelled.
- By March 31, those who had not been in Latvia since the start of the pandemic needed to come and issue their residence permit cards. We have many such clients, but no one's residence permit has been cancelled yet (due to the impossibility of traveling to Latvia).
- There are no problems with border crossings (from Latvia's side). Clients arrive by car or bus. They are allowed through with visas from other countries (Greek, French).
