On April 7th, the Latvian Saeima approved amendments to the Immigration Law.
According to the approved amendments, new residence permit applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus will not be accepted until June 30th of next year.
It is important to note - this does not apply to applications that were submitted before April 7th.
For example, if you submitted an application in February, and the application is still under review, there is a possibility of receiving a positive decision and obtaining a residence permit (even if it will be in May or June).
There are also exceptions provided - residence permits can still be obtained on the basis of marriage, family relations, humanitarian reasons, and others.
As for the usual annual renewal (registration) of a residence permit, there are no changes here.
However, given the current situation, the department carefully reviews everyone (both during residence permit renewal and during initial issuance), and may deny a residence permit (annul a residence permit) to those people who promote or support aggression.
And in conclusion - citizens of other countries (for example, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and others) can still obtain a residence permit based on real estate purchase!
