How to Obtain a Residence Permit in Latvia for a Newborn Child?

Many of our company's clients are interested in how to obtain a residence permit for a newborn child.

The entire family already has a residence permit. A child is born, and they need to be "added" to the other family members.

What are the main documents needed?

  • Birth certificate with Apostille
  • Residence permit application form
  • Photograph, 3x4 cm
  • Copy of passport
  • Receipt of state fee payment (for document review)
  • From one of the parents - a declaration of consent to reside in Latvian real estate
  • From one of the parents - a bank statement and a declaration of covering all expenses for the child

When to submit documents?

Keep in mind that the residence permit validity period for the child will be the same as that of the parents.

For example, if your residence permit card expires in November 2021, we advise first renewing your residence permit until the next year, and only then submit documents for the child.

Where to submit documents?

Documents can be submitted at the Embassy of Latvia (for example, at the Embassy of Latvia in Moscow).

Or sent by mail. Please note that documents can only be sent by mail if both you and the child are in Latvia! This can be verified by stamps in your passport.

If documents are sent to the department from Moscow, they will not be accepted and will not be returned.
