Recently, news appeared regarding the resumption of air traffic, as well as planned changes to the residence permit program.
We decided to look into this matter and provide our comments.
1) Air Traffic
Indeed, from March 17, Latvia is resuming air traffic with Russia and other non-European countries.
For example, you can buy a Riga-Moscow ticket for March 28, and a return ticket for March 31.
That is, this trip can be taken by citizens of Latvia (if they have a Russian visa), or holders of a valid residence permit card, permanently residing in Latvia, and wishing to travel to Russia to resolve certain matters.
But if you only have a residence permit decision, if you rarely visit Latvia, and do not have a valid visa, then entry is impossible.
You need to wait for the embassy to resume operations and begin issuing visas!
Another important point - to enter Latvia, you will need to present a negative test, and upon arrival - take another test and remain in home isolation for 10 days.
2) Changes to the Residence Permit Program
The Latvian Prime Minister announced that changes to the residence permit program are possible.
It is important to note that these are only "discussions." No specific decisions have been made. As of mid-March 2021, the program continues to operate.
