Our company client faced a task - it was necessary to arrange a residence permit for an adult son. The son came to Latvia on a visa (at the end of December), and the allowed number of days was already running out (according to the stay period in the Schengen area).
We assessed the circumstances and reached the following conclusions:
1) Expired stay is not a problem. The law stipulates that you can stay in Latvia with an "expired" visa even two months after the end of the emergency situation. We remind you that the emergency situation is in effect in Latvia until April 6.
2) The client has a Latvian company, and the son recently completed his education.
Since less than a year has passed since the completion of studies, we realized - it is possible to arrange a residence permit ON THE BASIS OF AN INTERNSHIP.
That is, the son will undergo an internship at his father's company. Such a residence permit is issued for one year. After one year, the son will arrange a work residence permit.
3) To implement this plan, we prepared two document packages. The first - for arranging an invitation. The second - for arranging the residence permit.
The process began in November and was completed in February. It took so long because it was necessary to obtain a certificate of good conduct from the United Kingdom in paper form.
4) Result - successfully arranged residence permit and a legal basis for staying in Latvia for the next 12 months.
We are satisfied with the result! Everything worked out, largely thanks to the trust and cooperation from our client.
