On December 18, the Latvian government amended the "Law on the Management of the Spread of Covid-19 Infection".
Among other things, some provisions relate to residence permits. Let's consider the main changes.
What should I do if I submitted documents for residence permit renewal in 2020 but couldn't come and collect it?
No need to worry.
The Department does not count the period from March 12, 2020 to June 30, 2021. If a positive residence permit decision has been received but the residence permit card has not been issued, then the residence permit will not be cancelled.
Most likely, it will be more convenient for you to submit documents for the next renewal and come to Latvia in 2021 in order to issue cards with a validity period until 2022.
Can I submit documents remotely next year?
Yes, until June 30 you can submit documents in two ways - by mail (in paper form) or electronically (through the Latvian government services website LATVIJA.LV)
According to our information, after June 30 the possibility of online submission will be preserved.
Is a bank certificate required?
At present, when registering (renewing) a residence permit, a bank certificate confirming the availability of funds is not required.
Can I submit documents for the INITIAL ISSUANCE of a residence permit? For example, you purchased a property and are requesting a residence permit for the first time.
