As is well known, the initial processing of residence permits was suspended in March. We expect the situation to improve soon, and documents will be able to be submitted again (at the embassy).
We present to your attention statistical data for the first quarter of 2020.
Investors acquired 20 properties that qualify under the Immigration Law.
For comparison - in 2019 there were 84 initial requests. The majority of investors are Russian citizens, 58 people.
Since there were no changes in 2020, in documents and process, demand was expected at the same level.
Unfortunately, the pandemic made adjustments. Not only has the document submission process been suspended, but there is also no transport connection with Russia or Ukraine.
Despite the current situation, our company continues to receive inquiries and requests, so we very much hope for "pent-up demand". We have noticed that both this year and last year, investors contact us who wish to obtain a residence permit and who are well-informed - they have studied the rules of the Latvian residence permit program and prepared the main set of documents.
Additional interesting facts:
- The Embassy of Latvia in Russia has already resumed issuing visas, but only for those who have permanent residence permit and need to come to Latvia to obtain permanent residence permit cards.
- If you have a trusted representative in Latvia, the transaction can be conducted remotely, with registration in the Land Register.
- There are no negative "signals", so we are confident that the residence permit program will be resumed.
- As of January 1, 2020, a residence permit in Latvia based on the purchase and ownership of REAL ESTATE was issued to 7,181 people, of whom 3,345 are investors and the rest are family members. They represent 40 countries around the world.
